Have you noticed that despite being fair-skinned, you have dark skin between legs? If that is so then you needn’t worry, you are not the only one. Many people are wondering why my inner thighs are dark. Having darker thighs is a problem faced by many women. The constant rubbing of the thighs against each other, especially if the thighs have become extra bulky, is the primary reason behind this problem. Darkening can be caused due to dryness of skin in this area too. On a positive note, there are natural ways of lightening the dark spots that spring up on your inner thighs.

How to Lighten Dark Skin Between Legs

1

Coconut oil with lemon juice

Coconut oil does the job of moisturizing dry skin and lightening the hyperpigmentation on skin while the lemon juice eradicates the blemishes on the skin by virtue of its innate bleaching quality. To make this natural moisturizing bleach, you will have to mix juice of half a lemon into 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Then, you will have to massage it for at least 15 minutes on your inner thighs. Dry the area with a cloth after having washed it with warm water.

2

Sugar, honey, lemon

Lemon is known for its pigmentation reducing qualities, while sugar is an excellent nature exfoliator and can help in shedding of the dead skin cells from the affected area. Honey on the other hand is a natural moisturizer. To make this natural remedy for lightening dark skin between legs, you will have to mix 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of honey into the juice of half a lemon. Now apply this paste on your inner thighs and rub it gently in a circular motion. Wash the paste off with water after letting it stay for 10 minutes.

3

Aloe vera gel and almond oil

Aloe vera is suitable to be used on any type of skin and possess soothing properties. The almond oil is rich in vitamin E and its combination with aloe vera gel can help in lightening the complexion of dark inner thighs. To make this pack, you will have to add a few drops of almond oil into 2 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Keep massaging this pack on the affected area until all of it is absorbed by the skin. Wash the area if you feel it to be sticky.

4

Oatmeal and Yogurt

Mix one teaspoon of oatmeal and yogurt into one teaspoon of lemon juice and make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the inner part of your thighs and leave it there to dry for about an hour. This pack has proven to be a natural exfoliant and is very popular home remedy among women when it comes to solving the problem of dark skin between legs.

5

Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Pure Emu oil

Take Shea butter, pure Emu oil and 100% pure vitamin E oil and mix them together in a large container. Form a cream like base by melting the Shea butter and then adding the Emu and vitamin E oils in it together. Apply this cream in the mornings and at night after taking a shower for a week.

6

Maintain good habits

  • Exfoliate: Exfoliating the skin with a good skin cleanser twice a week can help you in removing the layer of dead skin cells which is responsible for the skin darkness.

  • Moisturize: Moisturize the skin using vitamin E moisturizing creams after a shower or scrubbing to ensure that the skin does not become dry because of the loss of moisturizing oils.

  • Avoid rough jeans: Skin irritation caused by wearing rough jeans can also contribute to the darkening of skin between the legs therefore, it is best to wear comfortable cloths and avoid rough jeans.

  • Limit Shaving: It is common for women to desire hairless intimate areas, which is why they shave on a regular basis. However, skin irritation can be caused by the use of blunt razors, especially on sensitive skin of the inner thighs. Regular shaving over a period of time can result in dark inner thighs and ingrown hairs.

  • Fight Obesity: Overweight people tend to rub their thighs together during walking much more than other people. This causes itchiness and discoloration of skin in the long run. Wearing loose fitting garments and using natural fibers in place of synthetic fabrics can be a solution for them since synthetic fabrics irritate the skin.

Serious Causes of Dark Skin Between Legs

1

Insulin resistance

The blood sugar levels in the body are controlled by a hormone named insulin secreted by the pancreas. In people who are suffering from insulin resistance, the body starts rejecting the use of the insulin produced. Consequently, the blood sugar levels soar and the pancreas has to produce excess insulin to manage it. Weight gain is one of the clearest and earliest signs of insulin resistance, especially if it’s around the middle.

The symptoms that accompany weight gain are:

  • Brain fog (having difficulty in concentrating)

  • Hunger

  • Fatigue

  • The high levels of insulin circulating in the blood cause high blood pressure which is another common symptom of insulin resistance.

Dark patches of skin particularly on the back of the neck are common in people suffering from severe insulin resistance. In some cases, people have dark rings around their thighs too. Insulin resistance can lead to diabetes, which can cause the following condition.

2

Acanthosis nigricans

It is a skin condition which causes darkening and discoloration of skin in body folds. The affected areas usually smell bad and might thicken as well. The groin, armpit and neck are the most common areas affected by Acanthosis nigricans. Skin changes caused by this condition do not appear quickly and take several months or even years. It is common for the affected areas to itch or smell bad.

Diabetic and obese people have a greater chance of developing this condition. On rare occasions, Acanthosis nigricans is a symptom of a cancerous tumor in the liver or stomach. Hispanics, native Americans and blacks are more likely to develop this Acanthosis nigricans. Although it is untreatable, treating its underlying causes can restore skin texture and color to the affected areas.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS can also result in the development of Acanthosis nigricans.

How to treat:

For people whose Acanthosis nigricans stems from obesity, they can ease their symptoms by losing their weight. Taking medications for underlying problems related to the thyroid, ovaries or adrenal glands can also help in reliving symptoms. If the Acanthosis nigricans is caused because of a tumor then surgical removal can help in reducing the skin discoloration. Prescription creams, oral acne medication, antibacterial soaps and laser therapy might be advised by the doctor if you are concerned about the appearance of your skin.
