What about the time clozapam starts to work and the duration/efficacy for gastric bypass patients?

@ : Excellent question!! I need the answer to this too. My family doctor doesn't have enough knowledge about this problem. I'm concerned about all my medications.

I am also a gastric bypass patient and don't feel I get the full effect of my medications. Most doctors don't seem to understand this.

@ : I have the same problem being a gastric bypass patient. I have to make sure that my stomach is as empty as possible. Even then it seems to only be effective at some level for 6 hours. Since I can only have 2 dose a @.5 mg that doesn't help much for the other 4-8 hours I'm awake.

@ : If I were you id keep telling the doctor that your current dose just isn't doing enough and your symptoms are still too much to deal with. They always start out with the smallest dose possible but if you tell them it's not enough, they'll almost always increase it. That's what I had to do, now I take 1mg three times a day (which still seems too little but it's better) and my psychiatrist doesn't even like to give benzos. But of course you may not want a higher dose for fear of the negative side effects like addiction, brain damage, etc. lol... which is understandable.

@Larry @Kim Why not ask your pharmacist? Or, contact the manufacturer. If your primary care doctor doesn't know perhaps contact the doctor who performed the gastric bypass. That's what I would do

This is completely false. A drug's half life has little to do with the compounds actual duration of action (i.e. how long the effects, in this case sedation, last). The true duration of action for clonazepam is 6-12 hours, with no active metabolites. It can differ between individuals. For me, effects tend to taper around 6 hours with no effects past 7-8. Clonazepam is rapidly excreted renally through your urine.
